The book TORRE REFORMA is a 50 Books | 50 Covers of 2019 winner
This survey of book design represents perhaps the longest-standing legacy in American graphic design. Beginning in 1923, the Fifty Books of the Year competition was a yearly mainstay of AIGA. As dust jackets became more common, covers were added to the competition. From 2012–2018 Design Observer hosted the competition with AIGA through a joint venture. AIGA is delighted to usher in another year of amazing book and cover design.
This time-honored competition aims to identify the 50 best-designed books and book covers of 2019. The juror-selections from the 50 Books | 50 Covers competition exemplify the best current work in book and book cover design.
LBR&Arquitectos, founded in 1976 by L. Benjamin Romano, designs and builds architecture projects based on four defining principles: sustainability, structure, high technology and artistic integration. In 2018, the Reforma Tower was recognized as the best skyscraper in the world with the International Highrise Award. With 57 stories and 244 meters high, it was built on the corner of Paseo de la Reforma and Río Elba, and shares its plot with a house built in 1929 that was displaced in order to make room for the tower’s foundation, before being put back again in its original location. The project consists of two large, exposed-concrete walls, positioned at right angles to each other and facing Chapultepec Park. The tower’s construction system was an essential part of the project and is visible to the eye.
