Herzog & de Meuron’s Ford Student Center at Amherst College
Amherst College was founded in 1821 in the picturesque central Massachusetts town of the same name. Today it competes with other pedigreed liberal arts schools for academically or athletically gifted students, especially those whose parents can pay full tuition. That’s been good for architecture, as the colleges commission new dormitories, gyms, and student centers to make campus life ever more enticing.
