Herzog & de Meuron’s Ford Student Center & Dining Commons Opens at Amherst College | Architectural Record

Amherst College recently inaugurated the Ford Student Center & Dining Commons, transforming the lower levels of what had been a 1960s-era science building into a new campus gathering place topped by a mass-timber addition. Designed by Basel-based Herzog & de Meuron with Sasaki Associates as executive architect, the project combines adaptive reuse with new construction to connect the liberal arts school’s historic central quad with a newer greenway by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates. The Frederick Law Olmsted–designed campus in Amherst, Massachusetts, is a National Historic Site.
