Petroleum – Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2025

Iwan Baan’s Petroleum offers a stark portrait of the Athabasca Tar Sands in Canada, an aerial archaeology of extraction where the landscape becomes both resource and ruin. The images reveal the paradox of progress: immense industrial fields that power global economies while exhausting the planet’s capacity to regenerate.

Curated by Ann-Sofi Rönnskog and John Palmesino, founders of Territorial Agency

The 7th Lisbon Architecture Triennale runs from October 2 to December 8, 2025
