Art Plaza, originally designed by Arata Isozaki as the Oita Prefectural Library in 1966, is one of the architect’s early landmark works in his hometown of Oita. After the library moved to a new facility in 1996, the building was transferred to the city and reopened as a civic art hub.
Today it functions as a cultural complex with galleries and spaces for creative activities on the first and second floors. The third floor houses a permanent display of models and materials from Isozaki’s projects around the world, presenting his architectural legacy to the public.
