Sou Fujimoto’s Grand Ring for Expo 2025 Osaka is conceived as a vast wooden horizon that gently encircles the site. Formed from a modular lattice of timber joined with traditional Nuki techniques, the two-kilometre ring becomes both shelter and skywalk, a continuous surface that frames views outward to Osaka Bay and inward to the Expo grounds.
Sourced largely from Japanese cedar and cypress, the structure is designed to be assembled, dismantled, and reused. More than a circulation route, the Grand Ring acts as an open gesture of unity among the participating nations, a light yet monumental architecture that links tradition, landscape, and collective gathering.
