Designed by Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu of Amateur Architecture Studio, the Ninghai Museum reflects the architects’ ongoing commitment to material memory, craft, and regional identity. Located in Zhejiang province, the building draws inspiration from traditional Chinese construction while reinterpreting it through a contemporary architectural language. Reclaimed bricks and tiles from demolished villages are incorporated into the facade, embedding layers of history into the structure itself. The museum’s solid, almost geological presence echoes the surrounding landscape and local building traditions. As with much of their work, Wang and Lu resist spectacle in favor of slow architecture, where reuse, tactility, and cultural continuity become central design drivers.
