The 2023 Serpentine Pavilion, titled À table, is designed by Lina Ghotmeh as a space for gathering, dialogue, and reflection on our relationship with the Earth. Drawing from her Mediterranean heritage and the symbolic act of sharing meals, the pavilion features a circular table along its interior perimeter, inviting conviviality and exchange.
Ghotmeh’s design follows her concept of an “Archaeology of the Future,” using bio-sourced and low-carbon materials to create a structure that harmonizes with its natural context. The pleated roof, inspired by palm leaves and traditional togunas of Mali, promotes shade and peaceful conversation, while fretwork panels and wooden beams echo plant forms and tree trunks, enhancing natural light and ventilation.
