Completed in 1997, the TBWA\Chiat\Day Headquarters in Playa Del Rey, California, transformed a 120,000-square-foot warehouse into a dynamic, immersive workspace—dubbed “Advertising City.” Designed by Clive Wilkinson Architects, the project reimagined office life as a micro-urban landscape, complete with a Main Street, Central Park, basketball court, and a network of structures housing meeting rooms, project tents, and communal zones.
Custom-designed ‘Nest’ workstations, produced by Steelcase, won a 1999 Neocon Gold Award, reinforcing the project’s innovation in office ergonomics. A new gatehouse and tube bridge dramatically marked the entry sequence, heightening the sense of crossing into a self-contained creative world.
