Located in a high-altitude canyon near San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, Termas Puritama, designed by Germán del Sol, is a low-impact hot springs complex that blends seamlessly with the desert landscape. Rather than imposing architecture onto the site, Del Sol introduces a series of wooden walkways, platforms, and pavilions that follow the course of a natural stream, connecting a series of thermal pools fed by the Puritama River.
Built with light, modular structures of local wood and reeds, the design emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the terrain, vegetation, and geothermal water to shape the visitor’s experience. The architecture frames views, provides shade and rest, and creates a delicate balance between nature and comfort, offering an immersive and meditative escape into the arid landscape of the Atacama Desert.
