Factory Building on the Vitra Campus, Weil am Rhein Germany – SANAA

2013

“For us, the most important idea for the Factory Building was to create the round shape. But we were not interested in creating the perfect circle. My impression is that the circle, the perfect circle, is a bit too rigid, so we decided to create something that wasn’t mathematical, but a more deformed and organic shape. Another idea was to provide a lot of day light inside of the building to create a comfortable work place for the people.” SANAA

Almost all of the major projects that SANAA has completed up until now have been buildings for cultural institutions or universities. In Weil am Rhein – with the first industrial facility to be designed by SANAA – the idea was to apply a similar approach to the construction of a production hall.
