The DESI Building (Dipshikha Electrical Skill Improvement), located in rural Bangladesh, reinterprets the traditional Bangladeshi homestead—where daily functions are typically spread across multiple structures around a central courtyard—into a single, integrated building. Designed for a vocational school offering electrical training, the structure includes two classrooms, two offices, and residences for instructors, along with separate bathroom facilities for students and staff.
While geared toward a non-agricultural lifestyle, the building maintains strong ties to its rural cultural context, offering a compact and community-centered design. It reflects a thoughtful synthesis of vernacular spatial logic with the evolving needs of contemporary rural education.
