This boutique for the storied Mikimoto jewellery house—founded in 1899 and renowned for pioneering cultured pearls—was designed by Toyo Ito as an architectural expression of delicacy and wonder.

Inspired by the mysterious allure of a jewellery box, Toyo Ito envisioned the building as a play of bubbles surrounding pearls and petals drifting through space. The result is a luminous, almost ethereal structure that captures the elegance and refinement at the heart of the Mikimoto identity.
