MUKWANO Home, Uganda – Koji Tsutsui

2008

HIV/Aids has made orphans of millions of children. With a tree at its symbolic center, the Low-cost school and home for HIV orphans enables children to create their own home, and even help in its construction. As the children grow to adulthood, the village can be extended for their own families to grow up in this caring community.

On top of the tallest hill, in an abundant green landscape, the orphanage comprises 8 simple huts radially juxtaposed at 45degrees around a large gathering space sheltered by a tree. The basic spaces house different functions: dormitories, classrooms, a library and the teacher.
