The SONGEUN Building, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, is a new cultural landmark in Seoul’s Cheongdam-dong district. Commissioned by the SONGEUN Art and Cultural Foundation—a non-profit supporting contemporary Korean art since 1989—the building also serves as the headquarters for ST International.
Set within one of Seoul’s most commercial neighborhoods, the project offers non-commercial exhibition spaces that challenge the traditional museum typology. Its sculptural concrete form rises boldly from the city’s low-rise fabric, creating accessible, flexible galleries within a vertically compact site. The building fosters dialogue among artists, curators, and the public, reinforcing SONGEUN’s mission to position Korean contemporary art on a global stage.
