SANAA designed the Honmura Terminal on Naoshima as a gentle landmark for both islanders and visitors. A simple wooden grid carries an eight-meter-tall cloud of translucent FRP spheres, loosely stacked like a drifting cumulonimbus. Visible from land and sea, the form marks the ferry point without the need for signage. The thin, glowing shells filter daylight into an airy, floating interior, creating a light and welcoming space for waiting and arriving—an architecture as atmospheric and ephemeral as the island itself.
